A public meeting is scheduled to discuss the pros, cons and costs of a proposal to create a property tax-funded Cooper Landing Emergency Service Area. The meeting will begin at 6:00 PM and will be held in the Cooper Landing Community Hall located at 18511 Bean Creek Road in Cooper Landing. Quality Asphalt Paving (QAP) and Southeast Roadbuilders, in cooperation with DOT&PF, will begin production blasting for Phase 3 on June 12. Blasting will take place on the east side of the corridor, as noted by the star on the graphic below. The blasting operations are anticipated to occur twice a week between the hours of 10 AM and 8 PM from June 12 until October 31. Please be aware that blasting signals may be heard intermittently during this time.

The following blast signals will be sounded on a clearly audible air horn or similar device:

n

1. Blast Warning Signal: A series of long signals 5 minutes prior to blasting

n

2. Blasting Imminent: A series of short signals 1 minute prior to the blast

n

3. All-Clear Signal: One long signal following the inspection of the blast area

Public Meeting and Hearing Announced Regarding 2023 Unit 7 Federal Subsistence Sheep Harvest

The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) will hold a public meeting and hearing to share information and solicit comments on the fall 2023 federal subsistence Dall sheep draw hunt in Unit 7. Following analysis, the USFS intends to close, under delegation of authority, the federal subsistence draw hunt for Dall sheep during fall 2023 in Unit 7.

The meeting and hearing will be held telephonically on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 6pm. Opportunity will be provided for the public to share information, interact with state and federal managers, and offer testimony.

Footprints Around Cooper Landing Sign Project

As you cruise around the Landing this summer, stop by the Cooper Landing Museum, Community Club, and the Cemetery to view the newly installed interpretive signs depicting a bit of history about those locations.

nn

Together with Best Route Productions, Cooper Landing Community Club, Cooper Landing Historic Society, Cooper Landing Youth Group, and the Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area (KMTA) this project was completed. Thank you to the volunteers who researched and compiled the information/images for the signs and to the volunteers who proofread the designs before going to print. Thank you to Impact Signs and Graphics for printing and installing the signs.

The action granted a customary and traditional use determination to the community of Moose Pass for all fish in the Kenai Peninsula District, waters north of and including the Kenai River drainage within the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and the Chugach National Forest.nnThis action by the Board is administrative in nature and is in accordance with their recent vote on proposal FP23-08.
