Alaska Historical Society 2023 Conference

This year, the Alaska Historical Society will hold its annual statewide meeting on the central Kenai Peninsula, collaborating with the peninsula’s local historical societies. Registration is now open, with special options for Kenai Peninsula history fans. The conference will run Oct. 5-8, with activities in Soldotna and Kenai. That Saturday, Oct. 7, events will focus on the Kenai Peninsula, with speakers about local legacies and presentations about local museums and historical society projects. People can register for a single day, for the entire conference, or for attending online only. For the best “early bird” rates, register before Sept. 15.

Short power outage for Cooper Landing and Moose Pass / Aug. 25
On Friday, August 25, the communities of Cooper Landing and Moose Pass will experience a power outage lasting about 30 minutes at 10 am. The outages are the result of work being done at the Dave’s Creek substation. An outage on August 22 of a similar nature and duration was not earlier communicated to Moose Pass. Quartz Creek Yoga

Wednesday Morning Yoga Classes 10am to 11am will continue September through mid-October. Yoga sessions will focus on strength, stability, & flexibility while improving posture, focus, & breathing. Please bring a yoga mat. Mats will be available if needed, and props will be provided. $10 per class.

Also, HOURS UPDATE: Our store and restaurant now have the same hours, 7AM-11PM seven days a week. Reminder that breakfast is served in the Roadhouse from 7AM-11AM. I recently milled an older birch log and discovered this beautiful maple-like pattern. Those two are $50 each. I also have a lot of less spectacular slabs that are free. I still have a mountain of spruce sawmill scrap (firewood) that is free for self loading
