Regulations for subsistence take of wildlife published in Federal Register
On August 29, 2024, the Federal Subsistence Board (Board) published in the Federal Register the final rule for the subsistence taking of wildlife, (89 FR 70348). This final rule establishes the seasons, harvest limits, and methods and means for the taking of subsistence wildlife in Alaska for the 2024– 25 and 2025–26 regulatory years. This rule also revises the customary and traditional use determinations for wildlife, the general regulations, and a deferred proposal from the last fish cycle.
The Board published the proposed rule on February 27, 2023 (88 FR 12285), to amend the wildlife section of subparts C and D of 36 CFR part 242 and 50 CFR part 100. Publication of the proposed rule opened a public proposal and review process. The final rule reflects Board review and consideration of recommendations from the 10 Federal Subsistence Regional Advisory Councils, tribal and ANCSA corporation consultations, and public comments.
This rule is effective immediately. The 2024-2026 wildlife regulations book can be found at https://www.doi.gov/media/document/wildlife-regulations-book-2024-2026. Hard copies are currently being published and will be distributed to field offices soon.

Accepting Photos for the 2025 Sport Fishing Regulations Summary Books
(Statewide) – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G), Division of Sport Fish is now accepting photo submissions for the 2025 Sport Fishing Regulations Summary Cover Photo Contest.
ADF&G publishes four separate sport fishing regulation summary books each year for the Northern, Southcentral, Southeast, and Southwest regions. Each regional book features a cover with photos submitted by the public of their kids, families, or friends. The submission deadline for photo entries with a completed and signed media consent release form is 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2024.
A maximum of three photos may be entered. The photos must have been taken in Alaska in the past year or two. Photos submitted without a media consent release form will not be accepted. The media consent release form must be signed by the parent or guardian of children under 18 years of age. Are you submitting a photo of your kiddo with their friends? Please make sure their friends’ parent or guardian also submits a signed media consent release form, or the submitted photo will not be accepted.
Photos that show evidence of fish and game violations, unethical, or unsafe actions or advertisement will not be considered – this includes youths in a boat without a life vest.
Your email should include the anglers’ first and last name, age, species of fish, and the name of the waterbody the fish was caught. Please include as attachments the signed media release form and up to three photos. Please email the appropriate regional contact below based on where your photos were taken.

Troopers in Cooper Landing
Update on status of Troopers moving part or all of their Seward operation to Cooper Landing as of 9/1/2024. The troopers are still trying to find a location in Cooper Landing that they can relocate all or part of their Seward operation to Cooper Landing. Over the summer they put out a request for bids for the land and facility they need. They got one bid but evidently it was not workable as they are still looking for a building site that would meet their needs. They have asked the community to forward any suggestions that we might be aware of. Best contact CLCC has is Captain Mike Zweifel at the Soldotna Post (46333 Kalifornsky Beach Road, (907) 262-4453). This is a real opportunity for our community to not only get better coverage but also to bring in young families with good jobs to our town.
1st Annual CLES Fly Casting Competition
