Community Planting Day-Resurrection Creek

Come Join Trout Unlimited on June 28th 12-4pm for Plants for Salmon, a day to revegetate a stretch of Resurrection Creek degraded and straightened by mining activity.

Resurrection Creek is in the middle of a major restoration effort to restore over two miles of in-stream and 74 acres of riparian habitat. Part of the project involved excavating new pools and meanders, and now it is time to plant native vegetation to secure the banks.

To learn more about the event, check out our Facebook event here or email kevin.duffie@tu.org if you are interested in volunteering.

P.S. Check out the music in Hope to make the most out of the weekend!

Inter-Library Loan

Cooper Landing Community Library is pleased to share that the Inter-Library Loan (ILL) funding has been restored for small libraries across the state. Patrons are once again able to request and checkout materials that we do not have room for in our little library.

The funding for this part-time position, located in Anchorage, comes from a federal grant to the state from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Creative Mondays, Wet Felt Wearable Art Scarf Class – June 23rd, 5-8 pm

Cooper Landing Community Hall

Create your very own, one of a kind, felted wool scarf, table runner or wall hanging. You will hand felt your piece using soapy water, bubble wrap and a little elbow grease. No experience is necessary, and all materials are included. Some examples are shown here but let your imagination run wild. Just about any shape and design you can think of can be created. The class will cover the basics of how and why wool felts, surface design and embellishment, how to incorporate non-wool items, fulling (shrinking), finishing and how to care for your piece. The technique learned in this class will be the foundation to move on to more advanced felting. Please bring a couple of old towels and some  scissors. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting a little wet. Cost is $85 – all materials included. Instructor – Rhonda Lynn. To register or for questions email inspiredfelt@gmail.com or text 907-597-7055.

Hold Your Own Creative Monday! If you would like to offer your own talent to the pool, sign up to share your expertise! Creative Mondays are now being offered at the CLCC Hall once a month. Artists, Cooks, Sewers, Photographers, even Musicians are encouraged to pick a Monday to offer their expertise to members of our community and our surrounding neighbors. Participants do not have to pay to rent the Hall but must adhere to the rules and clean up procedures. In exchange we ask for a donation of your work or service that can be used as an auction item at one of our fundraisers. To register and for more information, email officers@cooperlandingcommunityclub.com.
