Monday Edition 7/21/25

Thank you!

A huge thank you to all the gardeners and participants in last week’s garden tour, hosted by the Cooper Landing Community Library. We want to thank the Cooper Landing Seniors and Alaska River Adventures for providing the transportation. Each garden was unique, and it was wonderful to see the beauty that residents have created around their homes. Additionally, thank you to our librarian, Ann Hanson, for hosting a picnic at the end! If you took photos that day, we would love it if you would email your favorites to cooperlandinglibrary@gmail.com.

Thank you to all who have made donations to the library to help meet the required community match for the $7,000 Public Library Assistance grant. So far, this event has raised $2,900! If you would like to make a donation, you may drop it off at the library, mail a check to Cooper Landing Community Library, PO Box 517, Cooper Landing, AK 99572, or donate online at this link

Thank you so much for your support!

C.L. Cemetery Needs Your Help

Cooper Landing Cemetery has been overwhelmed by fallen and dead spruce trees, making it difficult—and in some areas, unsafe—for visitors to access their loved ones’ resting places. We are seeking donations to help fund a crew for a day or two of cleanup in August, so the grounds can be restored and safely visited.

If you have loved ones interred at the cemetery or have a reserved plot, please consider contributing to this important effort. Your support will go directly toward preserving the dignity and accessibility of this cherished space.

If you would like to donate to the cause, please contact Tommy at 907-598-8061 or cooperlandingcemetery@gmail.com for information on how you can make a tax-deductible donation. Every contribution helps.

Kenai River Personal Use Dip Net Fishery Open 24 Hours Per Day

The Kenai River personal use dip net fishery will be open 24 hours per day, beginning 11:00 p.m. Friday, July 18 through 11:59 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2025.

The area of the Kenai River open to personal use dipnetting remains the same. Please review page 78 of the 2025 Southcentral Alaska Sport Fishing Regulations Summary booklet for a complete description of the area open to dipnetting, along with harvest limits and permit requirements. Participants are reminded that retention of king salmon is prohibited, and any king salmon caught must be returned immediately to the water. Additionally, to participate in the Upper Cook Inlet personal use fisheries, participants must be Alaska residents and have in their possession a current 2025 sport fishing license and an Upper Cook Inlet Personal Use permit. Nonresidents are not allowed to participate in personal use fisheries.

The Upper Cook Inlet Personal Use Salmon Fishery Management Plan allows ADF&G to increase the hours open to dipnetting in the Kenai River personal use fishery to 24 hours per day, if ADF&G is projecting a run size that exceeds 2.3 million late-run Kenai River sockeye salmon and anticipates the escapement goal (750,000 – 1,300,000 sockeye salmon) will be achieved. As of July 16, the current run projection for Kenai River sockeye salmon is 2.74 million.

Please respect all private property adjacent to public beaches and follow applicable rules and regulations when on lands owned by the City of Kenai.

For additional information, please contact Area Management Biologist Phill Stacey at (907) 260-2920.
