COOPER LANDING DID IT AGAIN! THE GREAT SALMON COOK-OFF OF 2026 WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!

The weather certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits! Eight talented chefs served amazingly delicious salmon dishes; community members filled the tables with delectable sides and desserts; door prizes kept coming; the silent auction featured great items; and live music by Ayden See filled the hall while our fantastic MCs, Dan & Tracy, kept the evening flowing; thank you for a job well done!

This year, the event honored founder Lynda Nugent, her spirit was very much a part of the evening. You could almost hear Ms. Lynda’s laugh and see her smile as friends and neighbors once again gathered for good food, laughter, and community, carrying her legacy forward.

Our discerning and appreciated judges, Mona Painter, Mike Harpe, Cecilia Pearson, Sandra Holsten, and Gyda Sears, had the very difficult job of choosing the winners from some seriously stiff competition.

                        And the winners are:

Most Creative: Jeff Whelan – House-Cured Salmon
Easiest to Make / Less Is More: Mike Gould – Blackened Salmon
Chef’s Choice: Thresia Raynor – Thai Salmon Arancini with Sweet Chili Sauce
People’s Choice: Angel Bond – Candied Bacon Bourbon Salmon Bites
Judges’ Best Overall: Samuel Zieglar – Miso-Cured Salmon

The other chefs included Jherrod & Miranda from the Russian Campground Crew and Cory Route, whose dishes made the competition especially fierce!

An event like this simply doesn’t happen without the incredible generosity of our community. A huge thank youto Cooper Landing Brewing Company for donating all the beer, Gwin’s Lodge for lending us chairs, and Peak Creative for graphic work.

We are tremendously grateful to all the individuals and businesses who donated door prizes, silent auction items, food, time, talent, sold the tickets and so much more. Special thanks to the Artisans Market, the Library, Wildmans, Alaska Rivers Company,  Princess RV Park office, Drifters Lodge, 60 North Adventures, Two Brothers, Rachael Mirth, Mike Amos, Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge, Joe Arnone, The Buckaroo, Kayce James, Gwin’s Lodge, Three Bears, Gary Ecker, the Russian River Ferry Crew, Thresia Raynor, Yvette Galbraith, The Fishy Store, and Trudy from Cooper Creek Campground.

Behind it all was an amazing planning committee, headed by Lorraine Temple, along with a dream team of Kim Scott, Miranda Thurman, Cory Route, Kristen Helgren and Yvette Galbraith, who put in countless hours to bring all the pieces together.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who cooked, baked, donated, put up and took down canopies, hauled chairs and tables, sold tickets, poured beer, cleaned up, bought auction items, volunteered, judged, played music, and simply showed up ready to have a good time. Every one of you had a hand in making the Great Salmon Cook-Off of 2026 such an incredible success.

Thank you, everyone, for making the Great Salmon Cook-Off of 2026 one for the books as a truly successful fundraiser for our cherished Cooper Landing Community Club!
