Kenai River Drainage Coho Salmon Limit Remains at Two Fish
(Soldotna)– The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is implementing the following sport fishing regulation restriction for the Kenai River drainage effective 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, September 1 through 11:59 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2026:
- The bag and possession limit for coho salmon, 16 inches or greater in length is two coho salmon.
The coho salmon bag and possession limit on the Kenai River increases to three fish by regulation beginning on September 1. This action maintains the current two fish bag and possession limit for the remainder of the coho salmon fishing season.
Anglers are reminded, fishing for Kenai River coho salmon is allowed from its mouth upstream to Bing’s Landing through November 30 (Southcentral Regulation Summary, Kenai River Lower Section page 45). Coho salmon season is allowed upstream of Bing’s Landing to the outlet of Kenai Lake through October 31 (Southcentral Regulation Summary, Kenai River Middle Section page 53). In the Russian River, fishing for coho salmon is allowed through September 30.
Due to continued indications of below average coho salmon abundance in Cook Inlet, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game will reduce the sport fishing bag limit for coho salmon in the Kenai River to help ensure adequate escapement and long term sustainability. Escapement monitoring for Kenai Peninsula coho salmon remains limited, adding uncertainty to expectations for the 2026 return. Recent catch rates point to a weak overall return to Cook Inlet, and several major Northern Cook Inlet coho producing systems appear to be experiencing weak returns, even as smaller systems such as Jim Creek, Ship Creek, Fish Creek and Anchor River are experiencing stronger returns. Given the uncertainty surrounding coho salmon productivity and the recent pattern of weak returns, this precautionary reduction in the bag limit is warranted to ensure adequate escapement.

CLES Fly Casting Competition
With an ever increasing call volume, our fundraising efforts are more important every year. We are pumped for this year’s 3d annual Fly Casting Competition to help to cover our costs to serve Cooper Landing and all the way to Turnagain Pass.
This year, we are streamlining the competition and packing all of the fun into 4 hours without designated times for each age group. Come any time between high noon and 4 pm to test your fishing skills and walk away with cash prizes and bragging rights! Multiple entries are allowed as well this year, so stay all day or just drop in to support CLES for any amount of time. Two Brothers Roadhouse will be providing food for the event so please join us for lunch and bring your friends. Local kids are planning to set up lemonade stands, donation to CLES encouraged but not required. Fire trucks, games of giving and door prizes available throughout the event; we hope to see you there!

Hello all you flexible people! This is to let you know, after today, Monday, August 31st, Creative Mondays Yoga will be held at Cory Routes on Quartz Creek Road. She will be hosting her classes at 10 am on Mondays for the month of September at this location instead of the Community Hall.

Alright Cooper Landing, the rivalry has intensified! Moose Pass rightfully earned our beloved handmade plaque by Rabbit last year (no disrespect to the lone CL entrants Mike and Lorraine!) . If the Landing wants to get back in the game, it’s time to get busy on stacking wood for the winter. Besides throwing your back into it, add a dash of creativity, humor, and a fun bribe or two! Cooper Landing Community Club Notice
Our fourth general Community Club Members Meeting for the year is Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 6 pm at the Hall. We are seeking Agenda items for this meeting no later than 11 am, September 9th. Please email your agenda request to officers@cooperlandingcommunityclub.com. Also at this meeting we will be accepting and voting on filling three seats for the Board. Yvette Galbraith, Lorraine Temple and Kathy Lessard have completed their terms and are stepping down as officers. All three will be available to help the new officers in the transition. Many years of hard work from previous and current board members have set up CLCC’s operations to run smoothly and it is a great time to be on this board and contribute to our community! Annual Support Needed for the Cooper Landing Community Library
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Every week, someone checks their email, picks up a new book, or brings their kids in for story time, all at a library that survives entirely on grants and community support. In July alone, 291 people visited our library!
What: We need to raise $7,000 to match this year’s Public Library Assistance grant from the Alaska State Library.
Why: This match is required to receive the grant. Together, grants and your donations keep the library running on just $15,000 a year and over 1,000 volunteer hours; no paid staff, no borough funding.
How: Any donation helps us meet the match and keep this grant. Here’s what it buys:
- $20 – a new children’s book
- $30 – a new adult book
- $80 – a month of electricity
- $250 – a month of heating fuel
- $450 – a year of access to Libby and the Alaska Digital Library
- $2,220 – a year of building insurance

New hours at the Cooper Landing Community Library
Beginning September 1, the library will be open with new hours. We have analyzed our attendance data, as well as our winter volunteer availability, and believe that these hours will best suit the community for the winter months. We plan to go back to being open six days a week during the summer months.

Summer AA Meetings in Cooper Landing!
Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held at the Baptist Church annex on Saturday mornings at 9am and on Tuesday nights at 7pm. These are open 12-step meetings. Seasonal workers and visitors welcome! If you are curious or think you might have an issue with drinking or other addictions, come join us.
