Spruce Bark Beetle Fuel Mitigation Treatment Work at Cooper Landing Solid Waste Transfer Site

The Kenai Peninsula Borough is conducting mitigation efforts through the removal of dead spruce around public facilities in Cooper Landing. Scheduled project areas are on KPB lands around the Cooper Landing Transfer Site, the Cooper Landing School, CLES, and near the Post office for the first 1/4 mile of Snug Harbor Road (south side). These efforts are made possible by USDA Forest Service grant funding that assists the borough in the implementation of our Community Wildfire Protection Plan. Please direct any questions comments or concerns to the project manager, Marcus Mueller (907) 714-2204 or mmueller@kpb.us

2025 Statewide Sport Fish Stocking Plan Open for Public Comment

(Statewide) – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game—Division of Sport Fish (Division), is accepting public comment through January 31, 2025, on its 2025 Statewide Stocking Plan for Sport Fisheries.

The Division, with assistance from private nonprofit hatchery operators, plans to release approximately 7 million fish annually into the waters of Alaska over the next five years to benefit anglers. The plan outlines the locations, numbers, and size or life stage for each species of fish that are planned for stocking.

“Public input is important to the Division as we finalize the Statewide Stocking Plan for 2025,” Statewide Stocking Coordinator Marley Loomis, said. “The Division commits a significant portion of the annual budget toward stocking fish throughout the state. Hearing from anglers is a critical piece of the fisheries management process and we welcome your comments on the plan.”

Only fish reared from the Division’s hatchery facilities and from private nonprofit hatcheries that work in cooperation with ADF&G to improve sport fisheries are included in this plan.

The Statewide Stocking Plan is available for review on the Division’s webpage. Hard copies are also available for review at local ADF&G offices.

Please submit public comments to Marley Loomis by email marley.loomis@alaska.gov or by mail:

The public comment period is open until 5 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025.
