| Your Last Chance to Comment to the Board of Game re: Trap Setbacks! The Alaska Board of Game is accepting public comments until 11:59pm, March 6 on Proposals #145–149 (Cooper Landing Trap Setbacks), which address trap setbacks and signage in high-use recreation areas of Cooper Landing. If you support defined safety buffers and clearer signage in heavily used recreation corridors, now is the time to submit a comment! How to comment: Visit the Alaska Board of Game website (https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/4ba1bc309f9a4738964ccbe2e8048cba) scroll down to the Kenai Peninsula Area – Units 7 & 15 (ProScposals 86-154) Submit comments on Proposals #145–149 (you do not need to comment on all proposals) A recent survey had noteworthy results. Overall Support for Regulations (Cooper Landing residents and non-residents) 184 of 223 respondents supported trapping regulations 82.5% (95% CI: 77.0% – 87.0%) Cooper Landing Resident Responses (n = 115) 96 residents supported proposals, which is 83.5% of those surveyed (95% CI: 75.8% – 89.0%) Winter Recreation Behavior Approximately 60% of respondents reported altering where they recreate in winter to avoid areas that may have traps (95% CI: 53.6% – 66.2%) This indicates that current conditions are influencing recreation patterns for a substantial portion of respondents. Public comments, therefore, remain an important avenue for community members to communicate their views directly to the Board! A final note on what Proposals #145–149 Would Do These proposals: Align with the Trappers Code of Ethics and ADFG Guidelines Increase public safety, reduce risk to dogs and recreationists, and strengthen user confidence Establish defined setbacks in clearly identified, high-use recreation corridors Provide clearer signage for active traplines Maintain trapping opportunity across the vast majority of Unit 7. Seeking Artist, Cooks, Sewers, Photographers and Musicians! Come and hold your own Creative Monday at the Cooper Landing Community Hall. If you would like to offer your own talent to the pool, we want you to sign up! Creative Mondays are offered at the CLCC Hall every month throughout 2026. We encourage individuals who are willing to share their talent and expertise to pick a Monday to teach members of our community and our surrounding neighbors. Participants do not have to pay to rent the Hall, can charge for their classes to cover their expenses, for their time and sharing their expertise, but must adhere to the rules and clean up procedures. In exchange, we ask for a small donation of your work or service that can be used as an auction item at one of our fundraisers.
