Author’s Tea and 2026 Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony
The young writers at Cooper Landing School have been diligently scribing away to create their written masterpiece for this year’s Written and Illustrated event. Every year students look forward to crafting their own story and illustrating the contents to create a published work that will live in their home library for years to come. Community members will get a chance to read the student created stories on Wednesday, May 20th. Desks will be arranged throughout the classroom for you to visit each author and view their hard work. Following the author’s tea, we will host the annual awards ceremony and kindergarten graduation.

Notice of Scheduled Slash Pile Burn and Temporary Site Closure: Snug Harbor Community Slash Disposal Site
ANNOUNCEMENT
Slash Pile Burn Planned:
Cooper Landing Community Slash Disposal Site
On Snug Harbor Road
A slash pile burn is scheduled to occur at the Cooper Landing Community Slash Disposal Site. The operation is tentatively scheduled to start on Thursday May 21st and will continue for several days, weather permitting. The public is advised that there will be smoke in the air from this activity. The site will be closed to the public during this time.
The goal of this work is to maintain the site and create space for continued community slash disposal. The slash disposal site is to assist property owners in their efforts to remove flammable vegetation around their improvements, commonly referred to as “Firewise” efforts.
Community members have been active in removing beetle kill, removing lower branches on live trees, thinning dense vegetation, and creating clear spaces near buildings and driveways. These materials are encouraged to be brought to the slash disposal site once the site reopens. The community slash disposal site is within the Kenai Peninsula Borough Snug Harbor Materials Site.
The Kenai Peninsula Borough, with assistance from the State of Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection, and also assistance from the US Forest Service, has contracted with Timbertech Outdoor Services to conduct the burn operation and return the site to a continued operational condition by early June.
The Kenai Peninsula Borough Land Management Division thanks the community for its responsible use and stewardship of the site, bringing in only woody materials free of metals, plastics, concrete and other trash.
More information on Firewise Practices can be found at: https://www.nfpa.org/education-and-research/wildfire/firewise-usa

Softball Tournament Update
We presently have 8 teams for the 2026 softball tournament. If there are players or people who want to form another team, I need to know ASAP.
The Captains Meeting will take place at the ballfield on Friday May 22 @7:00 PM. I will send another notice to the captains as a reminder sometime next week.
The Community Hall and Ball field clean-up day is Sunday May 24 from 2-5 PM. Ball field chores that need to be done include: Grass cutting, scorer’s shed and dugout cleaning, weed whacking, dig up around the bases… The more people, the easier and quicker this will go.
I will get practice signup sheets put on the fence in center field soon. There is a wedding on May 23 SO NO PRACTICE ON THAT DAY.
A special shout out to Dave Westerman who moved, repainted, and raised the scoreboard. It should be easier for everyone to see… Thanks DAVE!
