Thank You for a Wonderful Softball Tournament!
A HUGE THANK YOU to all who made the 2024 Softball Tournament a fun filled successful event. We are very grateful to so many who contributed to make it possible especially Yvette Galbraith & Martha Story for supplying years of wisdom and experience to guide us! Thank you to Kenai Princess Lodge (Alison Neeld, Tracy Smith and Angel Bond) for supplying the most delicious burgers, hot dogs, buns, and sponsoring a rib night to feed our spectators and players. Thank you to Wildmans (Cheryle James) for supplying a cooler, onions, many supplies, and helping us with chips,pretzels, ice cream and sodas. Thank you Alaska Wildland Adventures (David Story) for making our burgers complete with lettuce and tomatoes. We also would like to thank Two Brothers Roadhouse for their donation of pulled pork sandwiches, always a hit with everyone! Thank you to our concession workers supplied by the Cooper Landing Chamber, CLCC, Cooper Landing Senior Citizens Corporation, Inc., the Youth Group Committee, Cooper Landing Emergency Services, Cooper Landing Trails Committee and the Cooper Landing Community Library. The volunteers were like pros in the kitchen and on the grill! Thank you to all those who donated to our Silent Auction and to Julie Almanrode at for coordinating this enormous task! If you haven’t picked up your item, contact Julie at 595-2169 to pay for and get your goody! This is one of our major fund raisers for the Community Club and we were overwhelmed with everyone’s generosity as well as those who donated by bidding on items. Thank you to Dan Michels, who year after year, supplies his passion for the game in coordinating teams, umps, scorekeepers and maintenance on and around the field. Thank you Dave Westerman, the AWA crew, the Drifters Crew, Shane Andrews Cody Kitchen, Zach Seeland, Zach Andrews and the others who helped prep the field before our games. Thank you to John James and Nick Vanderhof for manning the scoreboard and Ann Hanson, Julie Almanrode and Glen Parker for keeping score; also in the booth were “flippers” Theresa Norris, John Almandrode, Crystal Nelson and Jerry Fox keeping track of the outs. Thank you to John Thomas & Rob Nelson for awesome announcing! We also appreciate John Thomas and Rachel Altmann for singing the national anthem at the start of each game that sent shivers up our spines! Thank you to our new property hosts Phil Hilbruner & Carolyn Knapper, who after everyone was gone, kept the field, parking lot and outhouses clean. Thank you to our teams and the players for supplying umps and providing all of us an escape and for 10 days. Hats off to Mountain Madness for 2nd place; (note: Mountain Madness and MooseAlanche have been in the final playoffs the last 4 years played!) and Two Brothers Road House, Alaska River Adventures, Alaska Wildland Adventures, Kenai Princess Lodge, Alaska Rivers Company, Bridge Builders the for all your energy, enthusiasm and sore muscles! We also thoroughly enjoyed the second annual kids game, “The Rat Pack” featuring our Cooper Landing youth beating the “Creakers”! ~thank you Shayla Swain, Ray Wilkes, Deanna Hoy and Dan Michels for making that happen! Congratulations to Julie Seramur for winning the Split-the-Pot and lastly, to MooseAlanche for being the 2024 Cooper Landing Softball Tournament Champions for a second year in a row!! Well played!

Tessa Hulls, a writer/artist/adventurer (who has spent many years working seasonally and biking solo around various parts of Alaska), is on a book tour with a new graphic memoir titled Feeding Ghosts. She will be biking through Cooper Landing and has agreed to come to Cooper Landing Community Library for a presentation on June 19 at 7pm.
