Cooper Landing Community Library News

The library will be open on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve (3-5pm), but closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Come by to play some chess and check out some books and DVDs. Pick out a puzzle or two while you’re there!

Chess at the Library!

It’s time to play CHESS! Come and work those brain cells on Tuesdays at the library, 3:15 pm to 4:30pm. All ages and levels are welcome. You are never too young or old to learn how to play!  Questions, please call Gary Galbraith (907) 302-1131. If you have your own set, please bring it!

Enjoy this video of the youngest world chess champion, age 18, in the final moments of the championship game. At 11 years old he dreamed of becoming the world’s youngest chess champion.

Puzzle Exchange

Take a puzzle or leave a puzzle!
This is a great  and easy way to share puzzles with our neighbors and friends!

Donating Guidelines
1. Please put DONATED BY and your name inside the top cover of the puzzle boxes you are exchanging.
2. Please provide puzzles in ziploc bags inside their box to avoid losing pieces.
3. Please leave good quality puzzles, 300 – 1500 pieces only.
4. No extra small piece puzzles.
5. It is okay to leave puzzles missing 1-2 pieces (but no more than that!), Be sure to indicate on the image of the box or picture provided where the missing pieces are located.

Returning Puzzles
1. When you finish your puzzle, sign your name inside the box so we can see which puzzles are the most popular and return it to the library for another!

How you can help our library:

  • Volunteer!  Email Virginia at cooperlandinglibrary@gmail.com if you would like to contribute time.  We are always looking for volunteers to work a regular shift or substitute.  We are also looking for help in specialized areas, such as accounting and information technology.
  • Donate!  Checks can be mailed to Cooper Landing Community Library, PO Box 517, Cooper Landing, AK 99572.  You can also donate directly at the library or online through our website, cooperlandinglibrary.com, by clicking the donate button at the bottom of the page.

Stay Visible When You Bike and Walk

Did you know? In Alaska’s dark winters, your choice of clothing can be a lifesaver. Here’s a
startling fact:

  • Drivers can only see someone walking in dark clothing from 55 feet away.
  • But with reflective materials? That distance jumps to 500 feet!

That’s why we’ve teamed up with the Center for Safe Alaskans to provide you with free
reflective tape, available at the Cooper Landing Community Library.

Tips for using the reflective tape:

  1. Cut reflective tape into smaller pieces to maximize use.
  2. Stick it on clean, dry surfaces.
  3. Add it to winter gear, backpacks, bikes, helmets, wheelchairs and even dog leashes.
  4. Place tape to outline your shape and highlight moving parts like sleeves and pant legs.

Need more? Order additional tape directly from the Center for Safe Alaskans:

Let’s shine bright and stay safe this winter, Alaska!

Volleyball returns in 2025

Amazing Internet service available in Cooper Landing!

Hello Cooper Landing!
My name is John. I own and operate Kenai Peninsula Satellite 📡

I just wanted to let you know that if you are on the fence about getting STARLINK, you might want to make a move.

The entire peninsula and across the inlet has been closed to new customers but not you!

Please call or text me anytime to ask questions, get advice or get help with installation. This service is so great! It reaches you first as the satellites pass over. That’s why Cooper landing is still available.
Thanks for reading 😊
