Celebration of Life, Janet Mitchell

Cooper Landing resident Janet “Jan” Patricia Ground Mitchell, 77, passed away peacefully, November 19, 2024 after a battle of cancer.

She was born September 19, 1947 in Seward, Alaska, the daughter of late Edward and Virginia (Pat) Ground.  On August 23, 1969 she married Gary Mitchell in Klamath Falls, Oregon.  They moved to Alaska in 1974, and resided in Fairbanks, Anchorage and Cooper Landing.  Jan worked as a teacher, teacher assistant, bookkeeper during her time in Anchorage.  She was the most loving mother and wife. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her “many talents, and her positive attitude”.  

She was a part of the sexy senior dumpster cleaners, election committee, community events, senior housing board, museum board member, and enjoyed volunteering for numerous community events. 

She enjoyed cooking, baking, berry picking, playing cards, and gathering with friends and family.  She was a master at stacking wood, gardening, sewing and predicting the weather.  Her heart and joy was listening and following her grandchildren stories and activities.   

She is survived by her husband, Gary Mitchell; daughter and son-n-law, Kristin and John Blees of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter-n-law Nicole Mitchell of New Palestine, Indiana, grandchildren, Maya and Mason Blees of Anchorage, Alaska; Kaitlyn and Alyssa Mitchell of New Palestine, Indiana; a brother and sister-n-law, Robbie and Diney Ground of Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Janet was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Mitchell. 

Celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 3 at 3pm at the Cooper Landing Community Center.  In lieu of flowers, please consider bringing a favorite desert to share with others.  Jan will be greatly missed by family, friends and community she loved so much.

Arctic Herbery Opening

Hi all, It’s that time!  Arctic Herbery will be opening this Friday (May 2nd, 2025) for the summer season.

Our hours will be from 12p-8p for start.  Please keep an eye on our Facebook page or check in at the shop for expanding hours as we move forward.

Hi folks, it’s getting real close to that time again.
I have many different varieties of tomato’s , cucumbers and peppers again. I also have hundreds of flower starts , which are ready now.
TOMATOES: ( Slicers) BHN 589, Giant Belgians, Bodacious, Carmelo, Delicious, Mortgage Lifter, Brandy Wine, Steak Sandwich, Sandwich Slicer, Siberian, Black Brandywine, Charokee Purple, Black Krim, Pineapple, Stupice, and Roman, Front Runner, 42Day. Some have blossoms already. ( Cherry Tomatoes) : ( some cherry varieties are of limited quantity). Tumbling Toms, Sweet 100, Early Cherry, Chocolate Cherry, Patio Choice (yellow),Sungold, Red Robin, Large Red Cherry, and Black Pearl. CUCUMBERS: China Jade (Asian), Sweet Long Slims( English), Tasty King ( Asian ) , Pepinex ( ( (English ),Sweet slice, Early Fortune ( slicer), Sweet Success, pick a bushel, Homemade Pickles, National pickles, Boston Pickles, and Burpees Pickles…… I have many different flower starts. Wave Petunias ( many colors). Geraniums ( 4 different colors), lots of alyssum , Bacopa (whie, pink and blue), Gazannias, Mixed Lobelia, many marigolds, Black eyed Susan’s and many more. I’m starting Nasturtiums this week.
I’ll also have .6 packs Cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Kohlrabi, possibly Chainese Cabbage and Bok Choy.
PEPPERS: Bells and jalapeno. Also I do have Zuchini    I should be open in a couple weeks.  If you want to come earlier ,  call or text me.

Grizzly Ridge Opening for Season

Grizzly Ridge opens Thursday, May 1st, from 8 AM to 6 PM.

We’ll operate Tuesday through Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM, closed Sunday and Monday.

Late May, we’ll expand to seven days a week.

Cooper Landing Advisory Planning Commission Regular Meeting May 7, 2025

Lacking agenda items from the Kenai Peninsula Borough, the May 7th regularly scheduled meeting of the Cooper Landing Advisory Planning Commission is canceled. Our next scheduled meeting is on June 4th and will be at the Cooper Landing Library.
