Community Spring Dance

Obituary for John Mitchell

John Peter Mitchell, 82, resident of Anchorage passed away on March 19, 2026. He loved spending time at his cabin in Cooper Landing and visiting the Sunrise Inn restaurant as often as he could.

March 30, April 6, 13, 20, 27 — Ongoing Let’s Cook! partnership with Soldotna Public Library’s Creative Aging program and Chef Bobbi Stelljes through a 7-week cooking class series called Simply Soups! Soldotna Public Library 1:30pm to 3:00pm, preregistration required at program outset, please call Soldotna Public Library to learn more about the Creative Aging program, KLFC partnerships, or other offerings (907) 262-4227!

March 30 — Growers’ Expo Organizers’ debrief… we’re writing thank you cards, tallying the numbers, and reviewing ways WE can GROW to meet the needs of the Central Peninsula for next years Growers’ Expo.

April 2, 9, 16, 23 — The Soldotna Seed Library will be meeting for continued activities and spring program planning. Expanding hours to be announced later to meet the NEEDS of the SEEDS! Stay tuned or drop by any Thursday morning to the Community Room of the Goods to learn more.

April 14 — Kenai Local Food Connection “Connectors Meeting” at the Community Room of the Goods starting at 6:30pm. Join us to learn more about our work in the community, different programs we are working on and ones we are hoping to initiate. See where you can contribute your talent and skills or just offer insight and support!

April 17 — Canning Meat, Vegetables and Soups class Friday, April 17, 5-9 p.m. with Cooperative Extension Professor Sarah Lewis. Learn to safely preserve and can meats and vegetables and make shelf-stable ready made soups! Sarah will teach pressure canning safety and skills for people of all experience levels. Class will include information you need to learn how to safely can and instruct others on safe canning. Location: Cook Inletkeeper Community Action Studio, 35911 Kenai Spur Highway, Unit 13 Cost: $65. Pregistration required, register at HERE. Fee waivers are available upon request through Professor Sarah Lewis via email or phone.

April 18 — Selling Homemade and Homegrown Food: Cottage Industry Law Info Session. Professor Sarah Lewis will be providing a free information session on legalities surrounding sales and marketing of homemade and homegrown food, recent updates to such laws, and how to ensure that the only hot water you are dealing with is for your hot water bath canning! This class is FREE and will be held in the Community Room of the Goods Saturday April 18 9:00am-11:00am.

April 18 — Food Preservation Open House: Pressure Canner Gauge Testing and Q&A at Kenai Community Library, drop in between 3:30pm and 4:30pm.


Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held at the Baptist Church annex Saturday mornings 9am. This is an open 12 step meeting. If you are curious or think you might have an issue with drinking or other addictions, come join us! The church is located at the corner of Snug Harbor Road and the Sterling Highway, next to the CL Emergency Services building. For more information, call (907)299-2855.
