State Offers Agriculture Land at Auction
(Anchorage, AK) – The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is inviting Alaska residents, nonresidents, businesses, and corporations interested in owning a piece of agricultural land in the Last Frontier to participate in the 2026 Alaska Agricultural State Land Auction, Offering #499, which includes 19 parcels in the North Fork Micro Ag Subdivisionon on the Kenai Peninsula and the Nenana-Totchaket Phase 1A and 1B subdivisions in Interior Alaska.
Bids may submitted online, in person, or by mail through September 30 at 4 p.m. Apparent high bids will be announced on October 21. Bidders may win and purchase up to 19 parcels. Auction brochures can be downloaded from the DNR Land Sales website at: https://dnr.alaska.gov/mlw/landsales/brochure/.
Parcels not sold at auction may be available through Over-the-Counter sales to Alaska residents, non-residents or businesses, starting on November 18 at 10 a.m. DNR offers competitive in-house financing for land purchases; for more information please visit: https://dnr.alaska.gov/mlw/landsales/info/financing/.
The Preference Right application period will begin on July 15, 2026 and end on July 31, 2026, as authorized under AS 38.05.069 Preference to persons for agricultural purposes. See brochure for details about Preference Rights.

Russian River Sanctuary Opens Early for Sport Fishing
(Soldotna) – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is announcing an early opening to sport fishing in the Russian River sanctuary area. This regulatory change is effective 12:01 a.m. Thursday, June 18 through Tuesday, July 14 (the Russian River Sanctuary Area is open by regulation, July 15 – August 20). Anglers, please note that the Russian River Sanctuary Area is Area B in the map below. The following sockeye salmon regulations apply for the Russian River Sanctuary Area from June 18 through August 20:
- Fly-fishing-only;
- Sockeye or coho salmon
- 16 inches or longer; 3 per day, 6 in possession in combination, of which only 1 per day, 1 in possession may be a coho salmon
- Less than 16 inches in length; 10 per day, 10 in possession;
Through June 15, 2026, a total of 6,061 sockeye salmon have passed the Russian River weir. Based on projections of escapement from the Kenai River mile 13.7 sonar and the Russian River weir, ADF&G now estimates that the biological escapement goal (BEG) of 22,000–42,000 sockeye salmon will be achieved. ADF&G will continue to monitor the run closely and may take further management action as sockeye return to the Russian River.
“Given the current level of escapement at the Russian River weir and the Kenai River sonar counts, opening the Sanctuary Area early will allow anglers more time and area to target these fish,” stated Cook Inlet Management Coordinator Patrick Fowler.
Anglers are reminded to remove fish carcasses from the clear waters of the Russian River. If you intend to clean your catch at the river, please take your fish to the mainstem Kenai River cleaning tables, located at the confluence and the ferry crossing, to fillet and cut up sockeye salmon carcasses into small pieces and throw the pieces into deep, flowing waters of the Kenai River. Please keep all personal belongings, including stringers of fish closely attended. Please respect habitat and cultural resource protection sites that are fenced or roped off, stay on the established trails and boardwalks in the Sanctuary Area, campground, and Russian River Ferry areas and use public restroom facilities in the campgrounds and ferry areas.

Recyclers – Time to Come Together!
As many know, with the loss of Roger Elkins, our Recycling Center has lost our major manager. Many in the community are stepping in to help, but we don’t always know who, what and when items are being hauled. The CLCC Board is asking for those who use the recycling center on a regular basis or step in now in then to help haul, to please reach out to us or Michael D’Angelis, (who was working along side Roger for a couple of years, and filling in for him these past few months.) We are also looking for volunteers to come together to come up with a plan and future management of the recycling center to help keep it clean and bear proof, new signage, fencing, fundraising, etc. We are hoping to have the recyclers come to our September meeting with ideas and maybe a plan for the community to vote upon.
