Sew and Sews, Quilters, Crafters
In 2024, the sewing club or Sew and Sews will have access to the community hall every other Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you are interested in using the hall for sewing, quilting or craft projects, contact the community hall for the key 907-595-2169. Please check the Cooper Landing Community Hall calendar on the website for all of the reserved dates as once in a while availability may be changed.

Good Morning –
I am writing to address some issues and concerns around the recent outages in your communities. First off, Chugach is aware that the number of outages has been excessive, and we are examining causes and solutions.
What we know for certain is that we are in an abnormally heavy snow year. Anchorage alone logged its snowiest November since recordkeeping began in 1953, and the Kenai Peninsula has had a heavy snow season as well. The majority of the outages in your area have been caused by heavy snow on trees that will then bend or fall into the powerline triggering an outage. Because trees can be taller than the powerlines, having them fall into our right-of-way from outside the right-of-way is not unusual. Snow loading and unloading on the powerlines themselves (often combined with wind) can cause a galloping effect and the lines to slap together, which triggers the protective relay to open the breaker and cause an outage.
Recognizing there is more snow to come and more work to do to increase reliability in your areas, we have had crews in both Moose Pass and Cooper Landing over the past few days patrolling the lines for trouble spots and taking down trees that are either in the lines or close to contact. We are trying to do what we can to minimize these snow and tree-caused outages. We will continue tree clearing and reliability improvements as we move into spring and summer. Chugach also recognizes the request to have a crew stationed on the Kenai Peninsula that could respond more quickly to outages. This and other alternatives to improve reliability and response times are being evaluated.
We are in the process of scheduling a community meeting at the Cooper Landing Community Hall in February to bring you more information. I will update you when that is scheduled.

AA Meetings
Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held at the Baptist Church annex Saturday mornings 9:00 and Wednesday nights 7:00. This is an open 12 step meeting. If you are curious or think you might have an issue with drinking or other addictions, come join us!
