The Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management is updating the existing 2019 Hazard Mitigation Plan. Earthquakes, floods, wildfire, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis are just a few of the hazards to be addressed in the Plan update. While hazards like these cannot be prevented, the KPB Hazard Mitigation Plan forms the foundation for our community’s long-term strategy to reduce disaster losses by breaking the repeated cycle of disaster damage and reconstruction.
Members of the public are invited to participate in the planning process by assisting in the identification of community concerns related to hazards, locations of concern, hazard mitigation opportunities, and hazard mitigation goals. The Borough is conducting a series of meetings to receive this input from community members. Cooper Landing residents and others are encouraged to attend the upcoming public meeting.

Chugach Electric Association Apologizes & Promises Cleanup
A very remorseful and apologetic phone call was received from Arthur Miller the CEO of Chugach Electric concerning the situation of the downed trees in Cooper Landing. After Thursday’s meeting with the community, Mr. Miller drove around Cooper Landing. He termed what he saw as “categorically unacceptable.” On behalf of CEA, he apologized profusely for what the community members had to go through to get to this point and promised to address the situation and get the ‘seen’ trees removed asap. He is meeting with internal folks eminently and may have a crew here perhaps as soon as tomorrow. He vowed to keep communications open and offered his personal contact to make sure of this. He realized the enormity of the issue and is making sure to rectify it for us. It was a warm and welcoming conversation that shows integrity and compassion on the part of Chugach Electric Association. Any comments or concerns may be directed to officers@cooperlandingcommunityclub.com and we’ll make sure they are passed on.

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held at the Baptist Church annex Saturday mornings 9:00 and Wednesday nights 7:00. This is an open 12 step meeting. If you are curious or think you might have an issue with drinking or other addictions, come join us! The church is located at the corner of Snug Harbor Road and the Sterling Highway, next to the CL Emergency Services building. For more information, call (907)299-2855.
