Cooper Landing Emergency Services

nn

Cooper Landing Emergency Services has been an unsupported 501c3 non-profit organization since 2007. Before that their history goes back to creation and providing service to the community since the 1970’s.

n

• Last year we responded to over 130 calls, an approximate 30% increase over the year before.

n

• We cover more than 70 miles of highway corridors and several hundred square miles of wilderness terrain.

n

• We provide mutual aid response to neighboring departments, Moose Pass, and Hope/Sunrise areas.

n

• We provide both fire and EMS response to the community.

n

• We have one part-time administration employee. All other duties are

n

handled by a group of 12-20 volunteers.

n

• We have ever-increasing financial needs in order to provide a competent

n

level of service and are in need of additional revenue to provide life-saving

n

support to our community. The continuing development and growth of our community is only going to add more calls to our service.

n

• For these reasons and many more, we are working on a petition to show support from Cooper Landing residents.

nn

CLES has a petition to support placing this on the October 3rd ballot and is hoping residents can provide public comments to the borough clerk prior to the June 6th Borough Assembly meeting in support of a proposed borough resolution to allow Cooper Landing to vote on making Cooper Landing Emergency Services a Kenai Peninsula Borough Tax Service Area. Our borough representative, Cindy Ecklund would make the resolution and if it passes the Borough assembly, the decision will be made by to the Cooper Landing voters on the October 3rd general election. This opportunity would allow CLES to have a more sustainable future in our ever-growing community.

nn

Public comments can be sent to MicheleTurner@kpb.us

nn

We will add information to our website as we receive it. Check it out for more information cooperlandinges.org

n

n

If you would like to see the petition or have questions, please contact Mitch Dickinson (907)-202-1795, Dan Osborn (907)-598-0310, Clay Adam (512)-695-4499 or any CLES board member. Some of us will be at the softball tournament Thursday June 1st running concessions. We will have petitions there and will hopefully be able to answer any questions.

n

n

Attached is a map of proposed service area, which will be subject to change as we move through this.
