Cooper Landing Senior Citizen Corp. September 2 Meeting

CLSCCI will meet Sept. 2, Tuesday evening at 6 pm in Helen Gwin Commons in Eagles View, Snug Harbor Senior Haven, for a potluck dinner, a general membership quarterly meeting, and a program.

Thanks to Ken Lancaster for providing the program based on his parents’ building and running Our Point of View Lodge overlooking Kenai Lake. From the 1955 opening until the lodge burned in 1976, it was a favorite destination for the view, the sunken rock fireplace, the cache in the front lawn and more. We will show the video by Paul Gray showing the lodge construction and working, other local history, and Ken as a busy teenager in Cooper Landing.  In 1973, Ken personally moved the first emergency services building from school property across the bridge to the CLES site. Later, when he was our state representative, Ken worked with the Sexy Senior Dumpster Cleaners.

CLSCCI members and all interested are invited to attend.

Cemetery Update

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated!

Boreal Tree Care has already completed their first day of work at the cemetery, and the results are wonderful—the lower area is looking so much better. Thanks to the generosity of our community, they’ll be able to return for two more days of tree clearing and clean-up. We’re excited to see how much more progress will be made in the coming weeks.

Free Logs for Firewood at Cooper Landing Community Hall

This summer, Boreal Tree Care cleared many dead trees around our Pavilion and the Hall Hosting site. They are stacked up against the CERT shed. They are available for our local seniors and anyone in need of easy access firewood. We just ask that you clean up after yourselves and check the CLCC calendar to make sure you are not chainsawing during an event! Also, wood inside the woodshed and the wood chip pile are off limits. We would also love it if a good Samaritan would haul away the two brush piles – one next to the entrance to the library ramp and another next to the volleyball court. (Pretty Please?) Any questions, please email officers@cooperlandingcommunityclub.com. Thank you!
