Notice of Vacancy – Cooper Landing Advisory Planning Commission
The Kenai Peninsula Borough is seeking applicants for vacant seats on the 7 member Cooper Landing Advisory Planning Commission. Seat A expires 9/30/2028, while seats C and D would expire on 9/30/2029. The Cooper Landing APC advises the Kenai Peninsula Borough Planning Commission on issues before it and provides interested local residents the opportunity to be involved in borough planning issues.
Applications are being sought from those qualified voters who reside in Cooper Landing as their full-time residence. Applications are submitted online:
https://www.kpb.us/apply-apc. The deadline to submit an application is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026.
CLSCCI General Membership Meeting
Reminder: The next CLSCCI General Membership Meeting is on August 11th at 6pm in the Helen Gwin Commons of Eagle’s View. There will be a potluck so bring a dish to share if you’d like. Important presentation to follow around 6:30pm.
Sheila Jacobson from the Department of Health Adult Protective Services will talk about Scam Prevention. It is a World Elder Abuse and Awareness Day (WEAAD) duo presentation with disaster preparedness, which comes with a lot of free swag and a discussion on the highest white-collar crime in America which is the financial exploitation of seniors.
Sheila says “The Fraudsters are out of control and are so savvy with AI now that it is imperative to consistently discuss it and provide education. You would be shocked to know how many seniors have been scammed. It is so sad and devastating but the worst is that being scammed is embarrassing and no one wants to talk about it. We need to not make people feel embarrassed because that is how the scammers win.

Unit 7 Caribou Registration Hunt Restricted to Harvest of Bulls Only
MOOSE PASS, Alaska–Seward District Ranger Ruth D’Amico, under authority delegated by the Federal Subsistence Board, is restricting the Unit 7 federal subsistence caribou registration hunt to the harvest of bulls only. The restriction will be effective from 12:01 a.m. on Monday August 10, to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026 unless rescinded by a subsequent federal special action. Based on aerial surveys conducted by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the Kenai Mountains Caribou Herd has suffered a significant decline. The State drawing hunt has also been restricted to bulls only. After a public hearing is held (date to be determined), this action may be extended through the end of the season, December 31, 2026.
